How do you turn a legacy gardening programme into a merchandise powerhouse?

THE BRIEF

The cornerstone of ABC’s lifestyle programs, Gardening Australia is the quintessential Australian gardening show, discussing organic and environmentally friendly gardening methods for green thumbs across the country.

Their existing merchandise had been underperforming and yielding poor sales, so they approached us to give their offering a visual refresh. They needed a merchandise range that would actually speak to their passionate audience, through a series of fun and engaging designs.

The RANGE

Approaching this as the Graphic Designer, I knew we had to cater to a wide audience, as our key green thumbed stakeholders were aged roughly 30-80. The best strategy to keep this range as accessible as possible, was to aim for a smart and casual approach, allowing for comfortable and easy to style garments.

Leaning on the strengths of the brand, we opted to utilize the desaturated blue & green tones for the core items, allowing for the designs to be the focal point on the garments.

For the premium items such as the Sunflower & Blue Bee hoods, we opted to use bright blank garments to contrast against the black designs of each diagram, creating a brighter garment to elevate above the core items.
